8mm tapes come in 3 formats: Video8, Hi8, and Digital8. Hi8 and Digital8 formats are recorded on exact same media (Hi8 tape). They look similar.
8mm tape dimensions are 3 11/16 in x 2 3/8 in x 19/32 in.
The maximum video runtime for Video8 and Hi8 formats ranges from 150 minutes to 5 hours, depending on the tape used and the recording speed.
The maximum runtime for the Digital8 format ranges from 60 minutes to 150 minutes. Recording speed is faster (which reduces length). Resolution is higher.
